Jurassic Park 3D in Theaters April 5th!

When I was invited me to an advance screening of Jurassic Park 3D, I knew I wanted to go--if I could bring my kids!  I remember the joy--and fright--I experienced when I first saw Steven Spielberg's 3-time Oscar winner in 1983.  Now, I have 3 little dinosaur fans of my own who I thought would appreciate the thrill of seeing "real" dinosaurs.  Now it's the 20th anniversary of Jurassic Park, and it has been remastered and presented in 3D.

In Jurassic Park 3D, dinosaurs are reanimated using drops of dinosaur blood found inside amber-preserved mosquitoes (that had bitten dinosaurs before end of life).  Dinosaur DNA is then resequenced from the dinosaur blood, and frog DNA is used to fill in any holes in the DNA sequence.  A rich philanthropist, using cutting edge technology, brings dinosaurs back to life (from embryos), and builds an amazing theme park around these prehistoric creatures!  The name of the park?  Jurassic Park!

Jurassic Park 3D boasts the talent of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Attenborough.  The movie is based on Michael Crichton's novel of the same name.  Due to the terrific acting in this movie, 20 years later it has withstood the test of time.  But there were definitely many laugh-out-loud moments in the film in which an old technology was presented as avant-garde (like CD Roms, touchscreen devices, and computers with screens as thick as microwave ovens)!  But gauging by audience response in the absolutely full theater, this was a good kind of retro humour.

From my children's perspective, they really enjoyed the movie and loved being able to see a T-Rex, stegosaurus, velociraptor and brachiosaurus in action.  During frightening scenes, they removed their 3D glasses for less intensity.  Needless to say, there were a lot of dinosaur questions on the drive home, which made for a very educational experience!
In terms of the 3D technology that was added to Jurassic Park film 20 years later, I should state it was not the same as seeing a movie that was filmed with 3D in mind.  However, if you are looking for a new thrill, you will enjoy viewing Jurassic Park in 3D--it is an entirely different experience with different focal points.  I would recommend taking kids to the movie, who don't frighten easily by loud sounds or scary sights!

Jurassic Park 3D is from Universal Pictures!

Have you seen Jurassic Park before?  Are you planning on seeing Jurassic Park 3D?

  1. I haven't seen any of the Jurassic Park movies much to my husband's dismay. While I'm sure he'll go see it in 3D I probably will stay home :)

  4. Oddly enough, I never watched any of the Jurassic Park movies, so this seems to be coming out at a good time. I'm not a fan of how every single movie needs to be in 3D these days but this one is perfect for it!
