Disney's Oz: The Great & Powerful Comes to Bluray Combo Pack June 11, 2013! |
Disney's Oz: The Great and Powerful movie is a brand new spin on the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz. Some differences that distinguish the two from one another: Oz: The Great and Powerful is not a musical, has a completely different storyline, different characters, and focuses on Oscar Diggs (James Franco)--a travelling magician who will one day become Oz: The Great and Powerful (The Wizard of Oz focuses on Dorothy's journey to see the Wizard of Oz). What has not changed is that it is a great family movie, based on the novel of L. Frank Baum, with some important morals. Of special interest, James Franco also produces and directs the movie.
Although there's a yellow brick road and munchkins in Oz: The Great and Powerful, there is no Dorothy Gale, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, or Toto. Instead we get to meet charming new characters like Theodora (originally a good witch), little China Girl (made of porcelain) and Finley the Flying Monkey (complete with a bellhop's uniform). We get to enjoy breathtaking special effects and beautifully designed costumes.

Oscar Diggs does not want to merely be a good man, he wants to be a great one. But can he change his ways along this magical journey, as he is asked to help save the citizens of Oz from the Wicked Witch of the East (Rachel Weisz)? Ultimately, can he transform into the Wizard of Oz and fulfill a prophecy that has been foretold--and pull off the biggest illusion of his career?
Disney's Oz: The Great and Powerful arrives to blu-ray combo pack on June 11th, 2013! Look for specially marked combo pack boxes that include FREE admission to Disney's The Lone Ranger, coming to theaters everywhere on July 3rd, 2013!
To celebrate the blu-ray combo pack release of Oz, I have some great Oz: The Great and Powerful children's activities here, which include a Finley monkey mask, Oz memory cards, spot the difference pages, and a maze!
