Finish Ultimate Kitchen Makeover, BOGO Promo & CONTEST! #FinishYourKitchen

In August, my family and I moved into a 30-year old Georgian-style home.  After waiting close to 3 years to find a resale home in the Toronto area, my husband and I were elated to finally snag our very own house!  Once we moved into our home, the reality quickly set in that the home had been neglected for 30-years, and that a lot of work needed to be done.

My husband and I surveyed the property and made a list of what needed to be done right away.  We decided that windows were a priority, as the old window frames had rotted right through.  We really wanted to put in a new kitchen, but couldn't justify the expense over that of the windows.  We agreed that we would do the kitchen eventually, but not right away.

As a family of 7, including 5 kids 8-years and under, the kitchen is the heart and soul of our home.  We prepare food, eat, do homework, and do computer work there.  Some days I "live" in the kitchen as I tend to the children's needs and use the kitchen as my office.  All of our family meetings are in the kitchen, as well as our more serious discussions.

A Dream Kitchen
My husband and I had discussed our dream kitchen in depth when we moved into our new home.  We have a sunny, south-facing kitchen with lots of windows, so had imagined a light-coloured granite countertop to reflect the light, such as a "White Ice" granite countertop, with clear crystals embedded in the rock.
Granite & Stone Samples for Our Dream Kitchen!
A rectangular stone backsplash in "Delicatos" (sand) colour would add neutrality and function to the kitchen.  To stand out, brandy colour cabinetry would pop against the granite countertops and stone backsplash.  My husband wanted a few glass front cabinets in which to display glassware and fancier pieces.

Our dream kitchen would have to include an oversized centre island as the kitchen's focal point.  We planned to overhang the countertop so we could use the island as a breakfast area with bar stools.  Overhead, we envisioned an elegant hanging pendant light, which we would duplicate over our main eating area.

In terms of appliances, we imagined a gleaming stainless steel refrigerator, stove and dishwasher!  (Our house did NOT come with any fridge, and featured an ancient stove and broken dishwasher.)  We would keep our current laminate floors, until the kids grew out of the perpetually messy stage.

Talking about kitchen messes, have you tried Finish Quantum tablets in your dishwasher?  I have tried their regular variety as well as their "Lemon Sparkle" scent, which makes the dishes smell so fresh and lemony!  The tablets feature a Power Rinse Aid, Quick Dissolving Power Gel and Advance Powder with Bleach when combined provide "ultimate clean and amazing shine".  Check out the great Finish product line: Finish Quantum, Finish Powerball and Finish Gelpacs!

  5. I love this post. I think it's awesome that you set your sights on something you really wanted and you did it. I get the frustration of having to do the windows over the kitchen but I think you made a good decision. Keep focusing on your goals and you'll get your dream kitchen. I love the colours and textures you're planning for.

    1. Thanks so much, Kelly! In a house that needs so much done, I had to take the practical approach. Otherwise, the cash would have gone toward cosmetics and I'd have had cold air blowing through my home this winter!

  9. We use Finish all the time, and just love it. Would never switch!!!
We have been very slowly renovating our house ever since we bought it 5 years ago. The kitchen really needs a makeover, especially since it is the first room you see when you walk into the house

  10. First thing I would do is sit down and thank God you picked my name. Then I would get to work making my choices for my new Kitchen cabinets.
