Fitness Is a Family Affair |
If you're a regular to my blog, you'll know that I shout from the rooftops about family health, fitness, and nutritious eating. 29 months ago, I embarked on a journey to bring health back to my family--and I lost 80 lbs by making simple changes to our lifestyle.
We keep the kids active by swimming weekly, jumping on the trampoline, running together, biking, riding the scooter, and walking to any local destinations. It's really not hard to fit physical activity into our daily routine. You can see a video of the kids combining sword fighting and trampolining, below.
Did you know that Canadian Tire is committed to getting kids more active with their families? Get outside and share photos or videos of how your kids play using the #WannaPlay hashtag!

How do your kids or grandkids like to be active? What was your favourite way to be active as a child?
How fun!! I love how active you all are as a whole family :)
ReplyDeleteWow, congratulations, losing 80 pounds is such a wonderful accomplishment! Obviously you and your family know how to be active!
ReplyDeleteI love getting out with my family and just doing stuff. Our family doesn't have a specific go to activity, but we have set a goal to try something new at least once a month:)
ReplyDeleteWhat's the name of the exercise equipment you and your family are using in the picture posed above. That looks like fun!!!
ReplyDeleteKatherine, those are elliptical trainers.
DeleteHow awesome: 80 lbs.. My daughter loves elliptical.
ReplyDeletelol my kids love watching your videos! Looks like you guys have fun and play all of the time!
ReplyDeleteMom Vs. The Boys please thank your boys for watching the videos; my kids really appreciate it! Yes, my household is a circus of play ;)
DeleteI love that your family is active together! We have family bike rides and spend most of our time playing in the back yard (soccer, frisby, football) during the summer!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your family is also very active outside in the summer. Lots of fun!
DeleteWe love your videos! So great to hear your story and how you are progressing! Keep being amazing! See you at the party!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, Alyssa, the kids will be delighted to hear! Thank you for your encouragement!
DeleteWhat fun! Will have to try to get on Twitter tonight for that party, thanks for the heads up! :)
ReplyDeleteWe take the nephews outside to play soccer nightly (the 6mo old watches of course, but for whatever reason, watching his older brother kick the ball around never fails to make him giggle!) And the 4 yo nephew is always game to take a long walk with us to explore our local community.
Being active as a family is so important. We do weekly hikes, jump on the trampoline and go for family bike rides all the time. The Canadian Tire twitter party sounds great! I'm marking it on my calendar!
ReplyDeleteI love how the whole family are working together as a team to get active
ReplyDeleteWow! 80 pounds, that's fantastic! My goal is to reach a healthy/normal BMI by December (my birthday) - this is very inspirational. It's also great to see the ripple effect a healthy mom has on her whole family! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteLast year we took up Geocaching as a family as way to get us out an active. We bike neighbourhoods and go out on long hikes looking for geocaches several times a week.
ReplyDeleteSounds like so much fun!
DeleteI loved biking when I was a kid. Now a days we geocache and hike, in all sorts of weather (yeah even that crazy deep freeze we got earlier this year)
