Guess Who I Found at the Side of the Road?
Imagine my surprise, when I found Elvis at the side of a frozen, Canadian road! Of course I picked him up at once and made sure he was okay. In return, he sent me Love Letters from Elvis!
It had been such a long time since I had seen a vinyl LP record, that I was shocked by how flimsy it was. Poor Elvis was covered in frost and I'm not sure if he's playable! Nonetheless, I brushed him off and brought him home--an almost 42 year old relic!
Here are the 11 songs of his 1971 record. I was wondering why I had never heard of any of them, but apparently the songs were leftovers from Elvis' June 1970 marathon recording sessions in Nashville, Tennessee.
- Love Letters
- When I'm Over You
- If I Were You
- Got My Mojo Working
- Heart of Rome
- Only Believe
- This is Our Dance
- Cindy, Cindy
- I'll Never Know
- It Ain't No Big Thing
- Life
What is the best or strangest thing you ever found outside? What do you think of this unusual find?
I love it! Who would do that? I can only assume they dropped it. Elvis is a keeper. Girl, I have inherited so many records from my Mom since we moved her and I have NO clue what to do with them. They are still sitting here in my kitchen, and I can't even play them. No idea. Anyways the strangest thing found at the side of the road was probably an animal. A cat. Once we spied a dog - not really at side of road but running around loose in a cemetery. My daughter envisioning rescue pets and Diego ordered pull the van over at once. So we did and we chased the dang dog for at least an hour but couldn't catch him. Oh well. She still wonders about that doggy every time we drive past the cemetery.
ReplyDeleteGreat story about the dog in the cemetery, Paula! We have a store in downtown Toronto that will buy vinyl. There are also eBay collectors $$$.
DeleteHow funny!! The King Lives! lol.. I miss the sound of vinyl.. it's so much better then CD's
ReplyDeleterachel, it's been a looong time since I owned a record player!

ReplyDeleteI love the title to song #4 - Got my mojo working... I'd love to hear what that sounds like. Can't say I have found anything as interesting by the side of the road. Love your post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Margarita!
DeleteWhile the circumstances were certainly unusual, I think it's a great find! You NEVER see vinyl today, let alone on the side of the road! I can't recall if I've ever found anything usual outside. Even now, as I try to think of something, nothing comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteAngela, now all I have to find is a record player!
DeleteThat is awesome; I would have been thrilled to find something like that! My favourite find was actually one my hubby made: clothes! An entire wardrobe worth of jeans, hoodies, t-shirts...all over and beside the highway. But the best part was, they were all his size!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome is that, Kathryn! What a crazy coincidence that your hubby found a whole wardrobe in his own size!
DeleteNever anything awesome as Elvis!
ReplyDeleteTrue!
DeleteYes I have never found anything as great as Elvis either. I think the most fun thing found was by my daughter in Huntington Beach. We were walking along and she found a $20 bill. She was beaming for the rest of the day!
ReplyDeleteLucky lady! I'm sure that she'll remember that for her whole life, Shannon!
DeleteWhat an awesome find, even if doesn't work - frame it! Instant found-art.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Lori!
DeleteI see shoes on the side of the road all the time and always wonder how one shoe got there... My husband found five rings in the ditch once. I still wear one of them - it's 18k gold and has a little ruby in it. :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie, 5 rings! How on Earth did they get there?! You've got one lucky hubby!
DeleteIf I ever found anything interesting outdoors, I don't remember it now. But that is cool finding an album like that.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, my kids asked me what it was...they had not clue what a record was!
DeleteWhat a great find! I think that would top anything that I have ever found. I can't think of anything other than trash.
ReplyDeleteLoved the post!
Thanks Pam!
Deletewow! What a awesome Find!
ReplyDeleteThat is such an incredible find! AWESOME!! I can't say I have found anything remotely as cool as that before anywhere!
ReplyDeleteWay to go!! you saved Elvis!! Elvis will truly always be the King and I love his music, I have a few records myself and I will never part with them, they are my keepers!!
