If you're wondering what to get the teenager, university student, parent, brother, sister, aunt or uncle on your Christmas gift list, you are not alone! Is there such a gift that will dazzle the recipient, offer years of use and enjoyment, and yet be an affordable "big ticket" item to the giver? The answer to all those questions is the HP Slate7 Android Tablet--ringing in at only $149.99! (Compare the iPad Mini from $319 to $719.) The Slate7 is available in silver.

Hard to Put Down: The HP Slate 7! |
Measuring in at 7" wide, only 1/3" thick, and weighing in at just 13.5oz/379g, the HP Slate7 is a very compact personal entertainment and work device. Listen to your favourite music, e-mail, surf the internet, print wirelessly to your HP e-printer (not included), watch videos, take photos or videos, read books and magazines (comes with 3 preloaded books), connect to your Google + (including loaded in bookmarks and preferences), find locations with the GPS map, download apps, etc. See HP Slate 7 specs.
As a household with multiple laptop computers, smartphones and an older generation iPad, I wondered how the HP Slate7 would fit into our lives? I use a laptop primarily for my writing, my smartphone mostly for phone calls and checking e-mails remotely--but the iPad has been my childrens' domain. Would I have use for a tablet?

At $149.99 CDN, the HP Slate7 Is a Price-Performer! Price Available on HPShopping.ca |
As soon as I opened up the box to the HP Slate7, the size of the device just looked right for my personal use. I picked it up and felt it's weight, and it also felt right. It is smaller than my iPad 2, but much bigger than my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone. I loved that it came partially charged, so I could get a feel for it right away. The wall-charger came packed in the Slate7's slim box.
The device quickly powered up, and took seconds to recognize and connect to my wireless network. It asked for my Gmail e-mail address, and right away logged me in and used all my Google Chrome bookmarks and preferences. In just an instant, I was set up with all my "stuff" and I felt right at home with it.
I quickly browsed through the shortcuts on the home screen, and found everything that I needed to get started using the internet. Google Chrome is the browser on the HP Slate7, one of the best in my books. The Slate7 is intuitive to use and was very easy to navigate. All apps were responsive, and I downloaded the free Netflix app with ease.

A Look at the HP Slate7 Icons I added Facebook & Twitter - YouTube Is On Next Page |
To round out the experience, I downloaded the Facebook and Twitter Social Media free apps from the Google Play Store. Both were easy to find, quick to download and easy to use. I would have loved if they were preloads, as these are very common Social Media apps.

I would love to have the HP Slate 7! We are Android people, so it would fit perfectly in our house. I also like how it is a whole lot cheaper then an iPad. With my home based business, when I do Trade Shows, home parties or anything, this Tablet would come in handy :)
ReplyDeleteGreat little device, I will have to look into these.
ReplyDeleteI think the price for this tablet is really good. I might need to look into this for my in-law's who's looking for a tablet that is easy to use.
