My Boys Inside the AGO Outdoor Sculpture |
My youngest guys and I were in for a treat this past weekend, when we attended the Hot Wheels Track Builder Challenge exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO)! My boys hadn't been to the AGO before, so they were definitely in for something special.

The AGO's Familiar Signage |
I was very honoured to be asked to be a member of the Hot Wheels Parent Connector Club--especially as the mom to 4 boys (and don't forget my 1 princess)! My 4-year old is especially car crazy, and I've written about his toy car collection HERE. Come to think about it, my 3-year old also has a pretty wicked car collection!

Hey Boys, Who's Excited For Hot Wheels? |
"The Hot Wheels Ultimate Track makes its grand debut at the AGO from March 8-16, 2014. Featuring a gravity-defying racecar circuit stretching over 500 feet, the supersized installation was designed by a team of Track Experts to launch the brand new Hot Wheels Track Builder Challenge, a cross-national competition. The Track Experts will be on site at the AGO to give tips and tricks to help kids create and connect their own Ultimate Track at interactive stations."

The Hot Wheels Track Builder Challenge at the AGO from March 8-16, 2014 |
The Hot Wheels racetrack set up at the AGO was phenomenal--traversing a child's "bedroom" and "house"! Tracks went across a real bed, up a bookshelf, over a chair and desk, along a couch, up on a fireplace mantelpiece--and even through the "backyard".
The interactive exhibit allowed kids to launch a Hot Wheels toy car from the beginning of the track, and watch as it navigated the entire circuit--including loop-de-loops! This was made possible by various "speed accelerator" points that would give the cars a boost of speed. My boys did this again and again...and again!

My Son Plays With Hot Wheels "Sharkport Showdown" at the AGO |
At the rear of the exhibit, kids could build their own racetracks and play with Hot Wheels playsets that had already been set up. There was a plenitude of Hot Wheel cars, including conventional cars, "Colour Shifters" cars that change colour when exposed to heat or cold, and my new favourites--"Mutant Machines". Mutant Machines are long, slinky cars that attach to one another by a little tail. They look like colourful daschunds and do well when launched through a curvy racetrack!
I was very impressed by how well the Hot Wheels Track Builder Challenge was staffed, and how the team interacted with the children visiting the exhibit. It was great that the kids had one-on-one attention with the staff, and had additional assistance with building the tracks and navigating the features of the playsets. Find out more about the AGO Hot Wheels Track Builder Challenge HERE.

Team Work: Building a Hot Wheels Track Together |
Later, at a private Hot Wheels Track Builder Challenge party (not open to the public), the kids had a great opportunity to get down on the floor and play with the newest Hot Wheels cars and sets. As you can see from the photos above, the boys had a great time using teamwork to put together some fantastic tracks!
The YTV Zoink'd television show was also onsite filming a segment about Hot Wheels, but my guys were so engrossed that they were not interested in much camera time. Now THAT's a true car lover for you!

Hotwheels have been a big part of my home for the past 18 years. My oldest son who is 19 now played with them all the time.
